Reality of the hate crimes situation

We talk about people coming out of the closet, but in reality society has created this so called closet and until recent years locked the door. In terms of cival Rights, gay people are probably historically the most held back minority in world history. In the United States, crimes of hate has been committed against the gay community at large by the same organizations that are responcible for some of the worst crimes against other minorities. Such as the KKK, which is probably the first American born terrorist group and a tormentor of southern African Americans.
Exploring the reasons of why discrimination against gay people has been took on by societies thoughout the world for centuries upon centuries is complex, but it comes down really overall to social taboos.
Reality of the situation in statistics
Violent crimes against the gay community at large is steadily growing and in some cases taking giant leaps in number of hate crimes. According to the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), there were a total of 7,459 known violent offences committed in the United States alone in 2002. A total of 1,244 hates crimes were perputrated on the account of sexual orientation. Only ten incidents out of the over one-thousand known incidents committed were against heterosexual individuals. Anti-male homosexual crimes were the highest number out of the 1,244 incidents. These incidents accounted for well over eight hundred compared to the 172 crimes committed specifically aggainst female homosexuals, the number for bi-sexuals were only 15. The greatest problem with these numbers are that they are growing.
